Flavia, la monaca musulmana
Filmed in Italia "Flavia, la monaca musulmana" was a cult cinema in 1974. A lot of cruelty, a lot of blood, a lot of sex. Florinda Bolkan become a sex symbol.
The incursion of Muslim army ends with a fall of a small Italian town. Life of near convent ends in an easy state of mind of Flavia, one of the nuns, who became a lover of a Muslim dux and helps enemies to get the town. She wants to have revenge upon her whole unhappy life. As a traitor, she'll be executed.
Symbolism of medieval Italia transformed in director's mind into primitive signs of swords and poles, open flame and naked model's bodies, false tomato blood and natural fresh carcass. Meaningless and sudden emancipation of Flavia leading her thought war and sex to the monstrous death. To became a lover of the muslim warrior is so easy, but to be one of his wives is impossible for rebellion woman. Muslim men never know how to forgive. Their passion can't be rejecting, moreover, a serious proposal must be a law for a woman. Flavia prefer to die than to be one among many.
Ahmed played by Anthony Higgins is handsome, brave, rigid man with very expressive face and manners. In this hero's armory are swords fighting, horse running, sweet smiling and naked...hmmm... you like it, although I didn't do some caps... His arse is enough.
I like this Anthony Higgins' role cause he could play a real man's character. And it's no matter that now this movie is not as popular now as it was.
P.S. To be naked on the screen was not a problem for Anthony. In "Nostadamus" (1994) we will see his nudeness again.
P.S.P.F. Maria Casares, a star of Jean Cocteau's films, is a magnetic actress. I was happy to watch her in this movie.
