A Walk with Love and Death
"A Walk with Love and Death" is the first Anthony Higgins' and Anjelica Huston's full-length movie.
John Huston, a director of the movie (and Anjelica's father), has made a good choice. Based on Hans Koningsberg's novel the movie has a good script and there were three excellent roles for young actors. All three of them became stars later - Anjelica Huston, Assi Dayan and Anthony Higgins.
Love story with elements of traditional medieval literature motive walk in the search for freedom leads Heron, a student (Assi Dayan as Assaf Dayan), to the knowledge of the value of human life and to the new form of faith. On his way to the sea - symbol of freedom - Heron meets various people of different social classes. He passes some tests and everything changes for him when he finds his true love in Claudia (Anjelica Huston), a young noble woman. His purpose from this moment is to save their lives during the Hundred Years' war.
Anthony Higgins' first movie shows his future possibilities in acting. His manner is calm, face is serene, voice is clear. I like quite manner in which he sings. It was obvious that his character should die in the end, as all good men do. In this preShakespearian youth you can find some lines of Elizabethan plays characters. I can say it is a good actor's work that is noteworthy.
You can think that all historic movies of 1960-s were boring, without vivid dialogs and there wasn't action in them. I can assure you, they were. But this is a good film for romantic souls or for crazy medieval enthusiasts.
