Written in 1952 by Rosemary Sutcliff, "The Eagle" was the first in a sequence of novels about Roman Britain and became the most popular author's historical novel for readers of all ages. Wonderful plot, historical believability, brave heroes and colorful language made this novel a great favorite of many children and adults all over the world.
Filmed in 1977 by BBC, "The Eagle of the Ninth" mini-series was very good. Anthony Higgins has a leading part and he looks absolutely as his personage described in a first chapter of the novel. No, this TV series was never available on VHS or DVD. Maybe you have your own VHS copy made from TV. If you have it - let me know!
"Togas on TV" by BBC tells us that the "The Eagle of the Ninth" is in their archives. Small vid is on YouTube, as usual.
